What Makes a Great Exhibition?

Working closely with Lawrence-based photographers Kat Almonte and Mahli Rivera, participants  explored how to produce an art exhibition from start to finish, culminating in Encounter the Real, an exhibition in Essex Art Center’s galleries. The young people learned how to develop an idea, select work, write labels, plan displays, and install the exhibition itself. By working behind-the-scenes to bring this exhibition to life, students learned not only about various professions in the visual arts but also what happens to art once its made—how to write about it, talk about it, and share it in community.
